The Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) at Santa Teresa High School is a leadership development program open to all students in grades 9 through 12. This program develops character, promotes citizenship, and fosters responsibility through a combination of academic instruction, physical training, and hands-on learning experiences.

Cadets will explore subjects like naval history, military customs, first aid, leadership, and maritime science. They’ll also participate in drill, uniform inspections, community service projects, and optional activities such as color guard, marksmanship, academic competitions, and field trips.

Students are not required to incur any military obligation by participating. Instead, they gain confidence, discipline, and valuable life skills that serve them well in any career path they choose. Whether a student plans to join the military, attend college, or enter the workforce, NJROTC provides a strong foundation in leadership, teamwork, and respect.

Drone Basics & Certification Prep introduces students to the fundamentals of drone technology, flight operations, and the rules that govern unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in the United States. Through hands-on learning and real-world applications, students will gain experience in basic drone flight skills, aerial navigation, safety protocols, and pre-flight planning. Emphasis is placed on understanding FAA Part 107 regulations, airspace classification, weather, and drone maintenance—all critical components in preparing for the FAA Remote Pilot Certification (Part 107) exam.

This course blends STEM learning with practical skills, making it ideal for students interested in technology, aviation, and future careers in public safety, construction, media, agriculture, and military operations. By the end of the course, students will be flight-confident and better equipped to pursue certification as a licensed commercial drone pilot.
